DOJ’s ENRD Changes Names, Retains Initials

On June 29, 2026, the US Department of Justice (DOJ) announced that it has renamed one of its divisions the “Energy and Natural Resources Division.” The renaming will allow the division’s initials (ENRD) to remain the same, as the division had been the “Environment and Natural Resources Division.”

Continued Defense of the Environment
According to DOJ’s press release, the announcement was made June 28 “by Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Adam Gustafson of ENRD in an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal.” ENRD’s name change “does not diminish its defense of the environment” as its environmental enforcement “protects public health and ensures a level playing field for companies that play by the rules.”
