We are pleased to recognize the dedicated work of Jennifer Varadi and Lexi Lora of Crain Caton & James in achieving a meaningful jury trial win in Liberty County. Their commitment resulted in their client being awarded Sole Managing Conservatorship—an achievement that is anything but easy in custody cases.
This case, which began in March 2023, centered around a devoted father fighting to protect his nine-year-old son. His goal was not only to ensure his child’s safety but also to provide him with the most stable and consistent environment possible. Over the course of nearly two years, this case saw extensive discovery, a thorough custody evaluation, and multiple hearings. Mediation and negotiation were explored in earnest, but certain dealbreakers ultimately led us to the courtroom for a jury trial.
Thanks to a true team effort—including the hard work of our client—Jennifer and Lexi were able to effectively present his story and substantiate his concerns with strong evidence. The jury saw the truth and made the right decision: appointing this dedicated father as Sole Managing Conservator with all exclusive decision-making rights for his son.
In family law, Sole Managing Conservatorship is rare. Typically, even in contentious custody disputes, courts lean toward Joint Managing Conservatorship with varying allocations of decision-making authority. This victory underscores the importance of strong advocacy and a clear demonstration of what is truly in the best interest of the child.
A special acknowledgment goes to Lexi Lora, for whom this case was one of her first assignments. This jury trial marked her debut as second chair and her first time taking witnesses during a jury trial. She performed admirably in her role and had the well-earned honor of delivering the closing argument to the jury—a well-deserved reward for her dedication and effort.
At the end of the day, it is an honor to represent parents who work tirelessly to provide the best for their children. Congratulations again to Jennifer, Lexi and Dad on this well-earned victory!
