In a news release issued February 28, 2025, EPA announced its accomplishments during the first month of the Trump Administration.

Canceling over $170 Million in Contracts and Grants
EPA canceled approximately $60 million in contracts “related to DEI, environmental justice, and more,” and 20 grants totaling approximately $61 million. It also canceled “a $50 million Biden-era environmental justice grant to the Climate Justice Alliance.”

Requesting Congress to Eliminate Waivers for California
During the Biden administration, EPA granted waivers to California to issue car and truck emission standards more stringent than federal standards. EPA has now submitted the waiver decision to Congress with a recommendation that Congress eliminate the waivers through the Congressional Review Act.

Other Claimed Accomplishments
EPA completed “in less than 30 days” hazardous material cleanup “following the catastrophic California wildfires.” This was “the agency’s largest ever wildfire hazardous waste cleanup.”

EPA delegated to West Virginia primary responsibility for issuing Class VI permits, which authorize subsurface sequestration of carbon dioxide under the Safe Drinking Water Act.

The former Gulf of Mexico Division is now the Gulf of America Division.

In conjunction with the Department of Energy, EPA is taking steps to eliminate or overhaul regulations on household appliances, which EPA says, “drive up the cost of living for American consumers and lower the quality of household appliances.”

EPA ended “full time, COVID-era remote work policies” and placed on administrative leave “171 employees working on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility, and Environmental Justice.”
